A hair transplant surgery can be performed as a way of combating the problem of hair loss in women. Like how it is done on men, the procedure involves moving hair from areas with sufficient hair growth (known as donor sites) to a bald spot (known as a recipient area). Hair transplants in females can also be done to restore women’s eyelashes and eyebrows.
When a woman begins to have a problem with hair loss, they begin to experience thinning all over the scalp. The issue of hair loss in women is usually triggered by hormonal changes after menopause, illness, or aging.
Females’ donor sites can get affected by follicle-killing dihydrotestosterone (DHT). And this is what makes female hair transplants more complicated.
The hair transplant procedure is more likely to be unsuccessful if performed on females with diffuse hair loss. This why we recommend having your hair transplant at Dr. Vivo Hair Transplant Clinic, where there are hair transplant experts who have been performing hair transplants for decades.
There are different methods of combatting the problem of hair loss in women. Hairpieces, wigs, and topical prescription drugs are some of the ways that women tend to turn to. But those are short-term solutions. Over the years, a hair transplant has proven to be an effective method for hair loss in women.
Like any other surgery, every patient who is about to have a hair transplant in Turkey must prepare for it. Preparation for the female hair transplant involves the following:
Performed by a dermatological surgeon, hair transplant surgery usually takes between 4 and 12 hours. But before it commences, the patient is examined – that means she will be under various blood tests to determine if she has HIV or Hepatitis C in her system.
Once the patient has been examined and is found to be suitable for the surgery, she will then have a brief discussion with her surgeon. The motive behind this discussion is to make sure that the patient’s expectations are right. It’s a critical discussion because it helps have the surgeon and the patient on the same page.
After the discussion, the surgeon will begin the surgery by making drawings that are aligned with the patient’s face. We understand that patients have different face shapes, so the drawings will always be unique.
Local anesthesia is then administered to the patient to make the scalp numb for the patient’s comfortability during the surgery. Once anesthesia begins to takes effect, the process of harvest hair units from a donor site begins. This process is also painless.
Next is the opening of the bald spot where grafts will be implanted. By opening the bald site, the surgeon will be making tiny incisions, and the harvested hair follicles are then planted upright.
Once the transplantation has taken place, the treated area will be carefully bandaged to avoid infection or any potential bleeding.
Considering that a hair transplant is a minimally invasive procedure, the recovery period is swift. Expect the donor area to be wholly healed three days post-surgery. But the re-growing of hair in that same area will be visible after ten days. It takes between three and 7 days for the recipient area to heal completely. You can resume your regular workout routine seven days after the surgery.
According to the İnternational Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, each transplant procedure should be between $3000 and $15,000.
